Proverbs 17:17
As a young boy, my Dad looked at me and said, “Son, if you go through your entire life and can count on ONE HAND all of the TRUE friends you have, then you will be RICH.” I literally laughed, because I thought that was the craziest thing I had ever heard. I thought, “Only 5 friends at the end of my life? Are you serious? That is just stupid,” were my thoughts!
Wow… I was so ignorant and, quite frankly, clueless as to what real life really was! It wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized how wise those words were my Dad had told me!
If you have lived any length of time, you can relate to this devotional today. All of us have had people in our lives that you just KNEW would be with you forever! You would have “bet the farm” that they would have stuck by your side for a lifetime. However, we all have experienced those same friends, when things didn’t go their way, oftentimes go missing and are never to be found again.
People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Think about the people in your life over the years. Whether they were there for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, accept them and treasure them for however long God allowed them to be part of your life. And when they are gone, be thankful for the gifts you received from them when they were here—for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
