“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.” – Jeremiah 6:16

Jeremiah 6:16
The old hymn goes like this:
Give me that old time religion,
Give me that old time religion,
Give me that old time religion,
It’s good enough for me.
It was good for Paul and Silas,
It was good for Paul and Silas,
It was good for Paul and Silas,
It’s good enough for me.
It was good for the Hebrew children,
It was good for the Hebrew children,
It was good for the Hebrew children,
It’s good enough for me.
It was good for our mothers,
It was good for our mothers,
It was good for our mothers,
It’s good enough for me.
Makes me love ev’ry body,
Makes me love ev’ry body,
Makes me love ev’ry body,
It’s good enough for me.
I was raised around old-fashioned camp meetings, tent revivals, church choirs, and old-time, Holy Ghost, anointed preaching. I was raised around men of God such as J Harold Smith, Percy Ray, Billy Kelly, Maze Jackson, Ralph Sexton Sr, and many more. These men preached under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit of God.
I grew up listening to the McKamey’s, Primitive Quartet, The Rochesters, Gold City Quartet, The Burns Trio, and many more singers that knew who they were singing about.
I grew up in a time where the Holy Spirit controlled the service. Programs didn’t take priority over the moving of the Spirit of God. Altars were frequently used, God’s people were unified, eyes were frequently filled with tears, and there was a burden that could not be ignored for the lost people around us. These were the days when the Church was thriving, many were being converted, and the Power of God was present in each and every service.
However, we are now living a day of watered-down worship, where the church looks like the world, the services mimic a night-club experience, where everyone comes as they are, but leaves just like the way they came. We are living in a day with empty altars, dry eyes, program-infested, prayerless services, where there’s no God, no burden, no anointing, and no conversions.
We have become so politically correct and afraid to preach the truth, that we now have an infestation of churches, that mimic and look just like a Saturday night party at the local sports bar. That is now the new “norm.”
My friends, if it ever worked before it will work now! We don’t need another entertaining, theatrical, performance, we need to get back to letting the Holy Ghost have control. We need spirit-filled singing, preaching, praying, and praising the Lord. Our kids need to see something real! Something that will change them for time and for eternity!
As for me and my family, GIVE ME THAT OLD-TIME RELIGION…IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME
