“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

I realize today’s devotional deals with a very touchy subject, money. However, it is something that must be addressed, confronted, and dealt with.
The love of money can be a costly addiction. This addiction has broken up friendships, destroyed marriages, bankrupted businesses, and ultimately cost people their lives. It is the love for money that causes people to work 100 hours per week, for 40 years, so they can buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like, and then they die. It is this love that causes good people, to never accomplish God’s will for their life, because they are constantly weighed down with the god of money. They are slaves to their idols. They are addicted to paper with green ink on it. Their entire lives are centered around their need to make another dollar.
My friend there is more to life than making money. Sure, we all need money to live. It takes money to pay bills, to eat, to get from one place to another. It even takes money to get the Gospel out. I understand all of that. Money isn’t the issue here, it is the LOVE of money that causes all of the problems.
We must all understand, God didn’t put us on this earth to work our entire lives to have stuff. God never intended for you to live, then die, with your only “accomplishments” being centered around how much money you made, or all the stuff you had.
God gave you LIFE so that you would use it to Glorify Him and to point others to His precious Son, Jesus Christ. The sad reality is, so many Christians have fallen into the trap of money. They are suffocating in their addiction for the almighty dollar to the point that the devil has successfully hindered them from being effective for God.
Do you realize the BEST investment you can ever make is in the cause of Christ? Do you know the return on your Investment for HIM, cannot be matched by any stock, 401K, Roth IRA, or Mutual fund?
The Bible says, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21
Friends don’t waste the life God has given you, by focusing on temporal things that one day are going to burn up. Invest in eternal things that will last forever. Do something for God. Be something for God. Lay aside everything that is keeping you from being all you can be for God.
The Bible says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
